The Manlleu driver Gerard Farrés faces the next Dakar with many new features and, as he himself says, ‘with great enthusiasm’, because he is beginning a new stage in the Pedregà Team. Farrés will participate in the same category, T4, with a can-am, and with the Ibizan Toni Vingut as co-pilot. Farrés joins this team with the desire to experience, together with other professionals, this stage of growth of the Pedregà Team in the Dakar and, at the same time, fight with motivation and ambition to be among the first positions.
With this decision, he closes a six-year stage in the South Racing team, with which he has experienced two podiums in the toughest race in the world and an immense teamwork that Farrés especially values: ‘during all the years they have done an unbeatable teamwork and from here I want to thank them. And, above all, I want to give a particular thanks to the team manager, Scott Abraham, who has fully trusted me and supported me throughout this time.’
On the other hand, Farrés’ current co-pilot, Diego Ortega, joins the MMP team, where he will be paired with Swiss pilot Jérôme de Sadeleer, who finished second in the last edition.
In the Dakar 2025, Gerard Farrés will be accompanied by Toni Vingut, a former motorcycle and quad rider with five Dakar participations. Starting out in the world of motocross, he later began competing in quads and after a break to dedicate himself to jet skis, he returned to quads, a specialty in which he has competed in the last Dakars.
For Toni Vingut, this new project is a challenge, as he himself confirms: ‘I begin this new stage with great enthusiasm. I’ve always been very attracted to Side by Side and I really like the idea of having a partner to share this adventure with and not going alone as I did with the quad. I really admire Gerard and I think it will be a good opportunity to learn a lot from him and understand this new discipline. I think that a strong point of our relationship is that, unlike many of the participants in cars, we both had a stage racing and sailing at the same time (as you have to do on a motorcycle and quad), so we agree on the way of understanding this type of race’.
With the confirmation of Farrés’ participation in the Dakar 2025, some intense weeks of training and joint work between driver and co-driver begin to arrive at the race in the best conditions.
